With global warming, the UV radiation index is getting higher and higher every year. Let's talk a little bit about these rays. UVA rays, the “aging rays”, have been proven to penetrate the dermis (the lower layer of your skin) and damage collagen and elastin components causing UV induced photoaging which, in turn, produces facial lines and loss of elasticity. Hyperpigmentation or brown spots are also caused by photo damage and UV rays. UVB rays, the “burning rays” penetrate the epidermis (the top layer of your skin) and are responsible for burning the skin. They are typically the most destructive form of UV radiation as it is known to cause photo chemical damage to cellular DNA. The FDA sadly anticipates more than a million new skin cancers that will be diagnosed in the United States alone this year. Malignant melanoma is suspected to be linked with both UVA and UVB exposure and is often fatal if not detected early. It is difficult to sway those of the “tan healthy” mind set since skin cancer and skin aging are often delayed and won't show up for many years to come. This keeps people in denial of the risks they are taking. We all know that we suffer the most skin damage before the age of 18 and pay for it twenty or thirty years later with skin cancers. Have you ever noticed the difference between tans on a 20 year old woman versus tans on a 50 year old woman? The 20 year old hasn't suffered the years of sun damage, so her tan looks smooth and pretty while the 50 year old woman's tan will look spotted and leathery because of all the years of sun damage. If the 20 year old is smart, she would stop tanning right now before she damages her skin further. So, now that fall is fast approaching, what skin damage are you noticing muddy-colored spotting, blotching, dehydration, fine lines or all of the above? I urge everyone to use a broad spectrum sunblock as part of their daily skin care regime, and particularly one with anti oxidant protection to help keep the free radical damage at bay. C serum is a must, along with a lightening compound to help fade and even out the skin. GreatSkin® offers a brand new Anti-Oxidant Daily Protectant SPF 18. It is our new oil-free daily moisturizer which provides broad spectrum UV protection while reversing skin damage caused by UV radiation. Anti-Oxidant Daily Protectant SPF 18 also uses special polysaccharides that increase the skin's hydration rate for up to 24 hours. It also contains photosomes, which are light-activated enzymes that use visible light to reverse the damage caused by UV radiation. Antioxidants vitamin A and green tea extract neutralize free radicals for powerful anti aging benefits. In addition, the formula contains Parsol 1789, which protects the skin from UVA rays which may contribute to premature aging of the skin and skin cancer. Another wonderful GreatSkin® product that will dramatically help with photo damage is our new 8% Skin Lightening Gel which contains new micronized ingredients: kojic acid, kojic dipalmitate, hydroquinone, licorice extract and all important L ascorbic acid. This exciting new product lightens overall complexion and corrects uneven skin tone while increasing skin firmness by up to 41%, increases skin structural lipid content by up to 86%, decreases dryness by more than 30% and decreases superficial lines and wrinkles by more than 25%. » return to top
10 years ago, we had only laser resurfacing with CO2 laser (an ablative technique, with at least 14 days of “down time”) for dramatic facial line reduction. Face lifts, of course, will always be a useful therapy for significant sagging skin which could not be overcome with even C02 Laser tightening. Now, through a combination approach, using upper and lower lid blepharoplasty in combination with C02 laser around the eyes, and sometimes C02 laser around the mouth as the “minimally invasive” procedure to rid the “problem area,” followed by such techniques as Restylane® and Perlane® injections, Advanta® (gortex) permanent Facial Implants, and FotoFacial-RF® Treatments using the Aurora® Syneron Laser, we can effect changes in your facial skin tone, texture, tightness and pore size that never existed. We always rely on pharmacologically active skin care ingredients to prepare the skin to “blossom.” The GreatSkin® line of products had been developed specifically to renew aging skin through the use of powerful antioxidants, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, and lightening creams and gels. We can rid your face of age related, pregnancy related and sun related pigmentation and telangectasia (redness, dilated capillaries), elevate deep lines and folds, augment shrinking lifeless lips, and restore your eye or mouth area to the way it was 15 years ago. All this can be accomplished in an office instead of an operating room, with minimal “down time” Healing time is so fast your friends will never be able to tell, other than the fact you look fabulous and they don't know why. Recently, we have found that the combination of Intense Pulse Light therapy (Fotofacial-RF) in combination with a good skin care program and topical antibiotics is the MOST effective form of therapy. This program can control and indeed improve most cases of Rosacea because it addresses the pathogenesis, the capillary problem. Intense pulsed light in combination with radiofrequency energy targets the abnormally dilated blood vessels, destroying the culprits of the disease.
