Fall
has always been my favorite time of year. It is the season of jack o' lanterns
and pumpkin pie----yum, my very favorite pie! Pumpkin is not only delicious,
but is so very good for us, as well. It is an excellent source of beta
carotene. It also contains a multitude of vitamins and minerals with strong
antioxidant protection. Besides eating pumpkin, did you know that it is
one of the most powerful ingredients used in the skin care field? The natural
fruit acids, along with Vitamins A, C, E, minerals and replenishing enzymes
make it a great exfoliant, breakout inhibitor, and pore refiner for your
skin. Pumpkin also decreases oxidation and free radical stress in the skin.
It is extraordinarily effective for dull, sluggish smoker's skin as it
stimulates circulation, promotes healing, and provides vitamin nutrition

 Two New Facial Procedures at GreatSkin® Clinics

In
the continuous search for the best in facial augmentation products, GreatSkin® Clinics
now offers two incredible new permanent products for minimally invasive
facial improvement.
The First product is Radiance-FN®, and incredible injectable
substance that can be used like traditional collagen, but has longevity
of 2-5 years! Bovine and Human collagen injections have to be repeated
frequently for sustained results. One must have injections every 2-3 months
for the lasting benefits of bovine or human collagen. With Radiance® one
may achieve near permanent augmentation of nasolabial folds, lips, marionette
lines, acne scars, glabellar frown lines, chin and cheek augmentation,
areas of facial wasting and various deep facial wrinkles. Radiance® is
microspheres of calcium-hydroxylapetite crystals suspended in a carrier
gel of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, glycerin and water. There are no
animal or human derived components to the substance and pre injection testing
is not required. Radiance has been cleared by the FDA for filling or augmenting
dental intraosseous and oral maxillofacial defects as well as vocal cord
augmentation. With more than 10,000 patients treated in the US in the past
year, there have been no reports of hypersensitivity, foreign body reaction
or calcification formation.
My personal experience with Radiance has been excellent. The viscosity
of the material lends it to excellent smoothness on injection. It is administered
through a 27 gauge needle into the subdermal plane without resistance and
can be nicely molded once instilled. Radiance is about twice to cost of
collagen, but lasts for up to seven years, resulting in substantial savings
and less trips to office in the long run.
The second new product is the Advanta® PTFE permanent implants.
For permanent long term augmentation of the lips, nasolabial folds, marionette
lines and other deep facial wrinkles, the implantation through a trocar
(hollow tube)of the Advanta® PTFE facial graft can make all the difference.
This product is made of PTFE, the substance which makes up vascular grafts
for blood vessel bypasses. It has been re-engineered however, to have special
qualities which make it extremely suitable for facial augmentation. The
Advanta Grafts come in many sizes and shapes and lengths. For example,
I like the oval graft material for lips and nasolabial folds. It looks
very natural and provides a beautiful permanent augmentation. The material
has advanced “dual porosity,” which means that the graft is
actually revascularized by ones own blood vessels and actually becomes
a “living” graft with time. (Because ones own blood vessels
can grow into the micro- pores of the graft material)
I really like the combination of implantable Advanta Grafts for deeper
lines and larger lip augmentations used together with Radiance injections
for near permanent augmentation as well. The two techniques are complimentary
and clearly light years beyond the old fashioned collagen injections. Remember
my last letter which commented that most patients have “one problem
area” of the face which shows age? The combination of Advanta PTFE
and Radiance-FN can take care of the “mouth area” with a minimally
invasive approach. When combined with “eye area” minimally
invasive surgery (blepharoplasty and peri-ocular resurfacing), the entire
face can be revitalized! Follow these two approaches pharmacologically
active skin care from GreatSkin® and Intense Pulsed Light treatments
and you have the total package of facial correction, with very little down
time and certainly no significant anesthetic risk.
