 Radiofrequency Tissue Tightening with Thermage®

Thermage® by Thermacool® corporation has been in the news extensively lately. This new medical device is approved by the US FDA for tissue tightening and lifting of the forehead, and by the Canadian FDA for full face non-invasive lifting. The device has been shown on Oprah, Good Morning America, and the Today show with mixed reviews. GreatSkin® Medi Spas of the Southwest is the first company in Albuquerque to be CERTIFIED BY THE THERMACOOL CORPORATION to offer the treatment to the public.
We have now completed providing care to approximately 40 patients and have found many positive advantages to the application of this device.
First, the Thermacool device is non-ablative. That means there is NO tissue damage, redness, injury or downtime. Second, the procedure is fast and effective. Third, the procedure can be used in combination with many other cosmetic adjunctive procedures such as Botox®, Collagen, Radiance®, Restylane®, Advanta PTFE® facial Grafts, Aramis® 1540nm Cold Laser Treatments, Microdermabrasian, Erbium Yag Resurfacing, ALA and Blue or Red light Therapy by Omnilux® and host of other non-ablative type procedures. We use Thermage carefully and with the following guideline:
"At GreatSkin® MediSpas of the Southwest, Thermage is used to treat only Two anatomic areas of the face or neck concomitantly. We treat those two Areas extensively, providing 3-4 passes per area, utilizing over 300 pulses Spread between only two areas. We use moderate power settings to avoid Thermal damage, but increase our overall time on the area by treating only Two adjacent areas per treatment session."
When this treatment protocol is followed, our results are always outstanding. The patient is thoroughly prepped prior to therapy using a microdermabrasion and then application of topical anesthetic ointment by occlusive technique. The patient my request pre operative sedation and moderate pain control. The procedure takes about 1.5 hours to deliver 300 pulses with the NEW FAST TIP recently released by Thermacool. There is no particular after care, although we always advise a "pharmacologically active" skin care program with epidermal growth factor, TNS Growth Serum, Tretinoin, and topical GreatSkin® 25% L-Ascorbic Acid Serum.
