Issue #5 - GRETA IN THE CITY OF ANGELS

Well, some Valentine’s Day this was turning out to be for Greta. No, Guy hadn’t asked her out or even given her a little heart shaped box of chocolates. Rather, he had sent her on assignment to Los Angeles to follow movie star Zane Craven all around town as he picked up accolades for his small, but stunning part in the new Mike Nichols film. Zane’d even won a Golden Globe Award and now that it was Valentine’s Day, he was in the mood for celebrating. So here she was, at the Ivy, the famous L.A. restaurant where every other table seemed to be occupied by a movie star or starlet. Zane had just ordered a couple of Ivy Gimlets and was waving at some director. Truthfully, all this star power was wasted on Greta because her mind was still in the Big Apple and she couldn’t get Guy out of her head.

Zane turned his attention to Greta and took her hand in his. "So, are you having fun?" he asked. "Am I impressing you?"

"You know, Zane," she said. "No matter how charming you try to be, my assignment is to write the truth, and nothing but the truth." With this, Greta slipped her hand away and excused herself to go to the ladies. There, she looked in the mirror and told herself to try to cheer up. It was Valentine’s Day, after all. She was at The Ivy. Maybe not with Guy Thompson, but still. Greta opened her beaded bag and took out her arsenal of GreatSkin lip products. However, there he was! Right there at the table talking to Zane! Greta acted nonchalant and took her seat. "Well, Guy how can Face Magazine possibly operate without you there?"

"Everything is under control, Greta," Guy said.

Greta turned to Zane to see if he noticed anything. Perhaps a little electricity between them. She wondered if perhaps her crush on Guy was obvious.

But Zane laughed as the Ivy Gimlets arrived and suddenly he took Greta’s hand and pressed a little velvet box into it.

Guy sat up.

Greta felt awkward, sitting between these two handsome men - the bad boy Hollywood movie star vying for her attention, while Guy, remained cool.

"What’s this?" Greta asked.

"Just a token of my esteem," Zane whispered.

"Well, I’d better be going," Guy said, suddenly standing up.

Greta wanted to stop him. She wanted to tell him that Zane didn’t mean anything to her. He was just a writing assignment, but it was all too late and now Zane was waiting for her to open the box.
